Virtual Private Networking is a method of connecting 2 devices exclusively over the Internet. Sometimes referred to as tunnelling, this process is the most economical method of gaining point to point communications. This taken together with the increasing availability and capacity of ADSL Broadband enables cost effective, reliable, high speed inter connectivity. VPN technologies not only provide a connection between single PC's but with the use of Routing (Using devices known as Routers) whole networks can be routed to form Local Area Network (LAN) extensions know as WAN's (Wide Area Network). This enables the ability of 2 geographically remote sites to use the same network and share databases and other services. It is on this technology that cheap, reliable teleworking has been made possible. |
